Today marks one of the most significant days for our nation. It is upon this day that we call to mind the principles of liberty and freedom, for as a nation we commemorate our Declaration of Independence from the British Crown on July 4th, 1776. It is this concrete reality that we are a free nation which has allowed Americana’s to pursue their dreams and desires of a better life, one that is free from the oppressive restrictions and hindrances placed upon us by a ruling force. Within the Declaration of Independence is one of the most extraordinary statements about freedom that has ever been proclaimed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Right, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. We would do well as a people to reflect upon the meaning of this statement and give thought to how invaluable our liberty and freedom truly is.
