Today marks one of the most significant days for our nation. It is upon this day that we call to mind the principles of liberty and freedom, for as a nation we commemorate our Declaration of Independence from the British Crown on July 4th, 1776. It is this concrete reality that we are a free nation which has allowed Americana’s to pursue their dreams and desires of a better life, one that is free from the oppressive restrictions and hindrances placed upon us by a ruling force. Within the Declaration of Independence is one of the most extraordinary statements about freedom that has ever been proclaimed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Right, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. We would do well as a people to reflect upon the meaning of this statement and give thought to how invaluable our liberty and freedom truly is.

Even now, after all the years that have gone by, I still wake up early on Easter morning with a sense of wonder, magic and gratitude. I remember opening my eyes, getting out of bed and going into the front room to see that the Easter Bunny brought me a basket filled with delightful chocolate and some little toys. I can recall my grandmother and aunt and uncle coming over later in the morning, which meant it was time to hunt for the hidden Easter eggs which were carefully concealed so as to make it a challenge to find them. Afterwards, we would go to Church and sitting there looking around, I was filled with a sense of beauty, for it was always decorated with lovely lilies and the priest would wear a magnificent chasuble with a radiant golden cross. The message of peace, sacrifice, redemption and most importantly love were eloquently spoken of. We at Panda Cub Productions want to wish everyone peace and joy upon this Easter day and hope that it is filled with wonder, magic and gratitude for all the good and truly wonderful people and events of our life. And if you are lucky enough to see the Easter Bunny give him my warm regards.

Just a little update from Panda Lord here…both of our latest apps that are currently in the programming phase are coming along very nicely, so it is very exciting to see them painstakingly being worked upon…As I type this post, I am listening to some of the music that the Panda Wizard has created for our “El Guante Brillante” app. I must say that the music he comes up with is pure cosmic, sonic harmony! I will keep you posted as we move through the Beta stages and get ready to release them! Go Team Panda!

Being the ever curious one, I was interested to see what if any feedback was left on one of the kindly blogs that wrote a review on iMoo. There was in fact a reply by one named Lorie that caught my attention, so I sent an email off to her asking if she would be interested in reviewing our app as well. Lorie wrote back saying that she would love to, but would have to wait until she was fully recovered from an operation she just underwent. Having been in the same boat as she was some years back, I knew exactly how much “fun” that is. I sent off a promo copy and told to just have some fun with it and not to worry about reviewing it. A few days later, I received an email from her thanking me for showing her some kindness and that she made a post on her blog about experience with yours truly and Panda Cub Productions. We here at Panda Cub Productions want to wish you a very prosperous, tranquil, joyful and dare I say grace filled year. I am always reminded at beginning of a new year of a very famed quote by Henry Wordsworth Longfellow, which states “look not mournfully into the past. It comes not back again. Wisely improve the present. It is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future, without fear, and with a manly heart.” So it is with a sense of accomplishment that I look back on our first year here at Panda Cub Productions, as well with a sense of anticipation and eagerness for the new year. Working side by side with my most esteemed partner Tim (known around these parts as the Panda Wizard) we have been working assiduously to bring forth even more whimsical and superb products for your entertainment and enjoyment in the coming months!

Roma non fu fatta in un giorno is the classic latin proverb that translates “Rome was not built in a day.” When I think over the course of time that has transpired from my initial conception of creating Panda Cub Productions to the present-day reality of actually having everything in place to release our first iPhone application, this time worn latin proverb came to mind. Reflecting back over the course of how all of this has transpired gives way to sense of accomplishment, if for no other reason than just the mere fact of having finally arrived at this point.
How did it all begin you ask? Well, my initial business idea in having a company that produced Apple iPhone/iPod apps came about after seeing the success Apple obtained in terms of sales of the iPhone and iPod. Even more importantly, was gauging how well received Apples app store was with those users. Demand creates a market, and this particular market has a very high demand. This was definitely the market I wanted to get into. There were several other aspects that appealed to me in terms of really wanting to make a go of this type of field. It offers a sense of creativity, freedom, potential revenue (one of the reasons for going into business is the hope of making money right?) and the wherewithal to surround myself with good and talented people.
I knew that I wanted to have a partner who was creative, fun, professional, and most importantly one who has integrity. There was only one individual who I thought would be the right fit for such an endeavor. It was last November that I sent out my initial proposal to Tim, in hopes that he would not only find the idea appealing, but more importantly that he would accept. At the time, he and his wife were across the Pond (visiting England). It was not until he returned could we sit down and talk over all of the necessary aspects to make Panda Cub Productions a reality. From undertaking the necessary aspects of creating a legitimate and legal business entity, to the essential work of creating our first app went something akin to this:
- finding a business mentor (Tom Malloy’s years of business experience and his personal convictions made him my first and only choice…fortunately for me he accepted)
- attaining Tim as a business partner,
- acquiring the FBN (Fictitious Business Name),
- posting a “doing business as” ad within the local newspaper,
- opening a business bank account, choosing and registering the domain name,
purchasing web hosting,
- creating the logo (Bisho does great work in bringing ones initial concept to visualized actuality),
- putting together the web page (watching Tim shrink everything down so it fits perfectly onto his Powerbook…fun),
- hiring a programmer (Steve has done stellar work)
- and lastly, proceeding from the various stages of creating our first app, by way of manifesting the idea into working alpha builds, then to beta builds and lastly, finalizing it with a finished product ready to be released.
To think it has just about taken a year for all of our Panda Cubs to align…quite a journey to enter into, and one that I hope will continue for a long long time.
